The field guide / iMessage / iOS 17+
Make iMessage stickers from Photos on iOS 17 and later.
Start with one transparent PNG. These illustrated steps explain the real process, not a one-tap keyboard promise.
Checked 8 November 2026. Controls vary by app, account and device.
Step 01
Save into Photos
Download the PNG. From Files or the download preview, use Share and Save Image to put it in Photos. Open the image full screen in Photos.

Step 02
Lift the subject
Touch and hold the main object, then release. If your iPhone recognises the subject, choose Add Sticker. Add Effect is optional. Subject detection depends on the artwork and compatible device; not every image will lift.

Step 03
Find it in Messages
Open a Messages conversation, tap the plus button and choose Stickers, then your saved stickers. Tap to send or drag onto a message bubble. Ordinary PNGs remain static, not animated Live Photos.

Before you start
Download the original PNG, not a screenshot. Save it to Photos or your gallery where an app needs photo-library access. Never grant full keyboard access or install an unfamiliar app merely to send an image.
Read the platform’s own help. These are independent guides; Trade Emojis is not affiliated with the apps.
